The House That Wants Fire To Consume Itself Poem by RIC BASTASA

The House That Wants Fire To Consume Itself

someone is stable and
happy
like a house on a hill
surrounded by trees
on a sunny day
where birds sing their songs
where schools of fish
find their home in that
deep blue ocean

it wants to catch fire from
the sun and burn itself
till complete consumption.

absurd but true as it is
happening to you, wanting to
be but another dust, or ash
on someone's feet.
