The Joker Poem by Kylie Ehlinger

The Joker

The Joker dances
And laughs,
In this deep cimmerian night.
Chains dance,
My bondage unknown to man,
The dusk envelopes us both
As He kisses
My tear stained cheek.
His icy hands
Caressing my skin,
My vision emulsified,
A fools notion
To believe I am free.
The light fades
As the dark comes home,
No words are spoken
No whimpers are loosed
As I turn my head,
Envisioning a better place
Than this cage inside my head.
The gleam in my eyes
Dies with every touch,
This grave figure
Who hovers so near,
This Joker of devilish hearts,
Takes what belongs to another.
Only this other's voice
Becomes the Savior
Of my waking nightmare.
But the breaking of my bondage
Is but illusory,
As the Joker's Court
Rebukes the innocent.
Branded as a liar,
Now, there is but
A haunting
Of what this man has done.
