The Journey Poem by Nkwain Stephen

The Journey

THE JOURNEY
It was to be a long journey
A journey planned with money
It was to begin with no delay
But not to be done in a day
It was not to be for only week
And even a century would be too quick
It was no office for a single man
But a task for many a man
The lowering of the Union Jack
Gave them the green light to embark
The sons and daughters of Napoleon
Began with the steps of a chameleon
As days passed, they planted snares
And snared us as their wares
With happiness, we swung in their chains
For decades before sensing the pains
