The Joy Of Black Hair Poem by sydney conteh

The Joy Of Black Hair

It is said
The bigger the hair the closer to heaven you are
The longer the hair
The closer to your roots

That is why black people
Have skyscraper afros
To show the god and goddess
That resides in black skin

That is why we wear dreads
That touch the ground
Connecting us to our ancestors

Black people have the power to
Deify ourselves, whilst keeping ourselves
Grounded, to our ancestors
