The Key Poem by Lydia Martin

The Key

When you open the box what do you see?
Four walls and a door without any key…..
When you reach inside and search more deeply
Don’t listen for the sound of emptiness….
Don’t wait for the feeling of loneliness….

Wise words once spoken where life’s light once shined
From the mouths of babes, “seek and you shall find”,
For pity will come running etched and lined,
When you look for the sound of emptiness…..
When you look for the feeling of loneliness…..

If you cannot gaze beyond what you see,
Trawl the oceans for that golden key;
On all fours you must delve more deeply.
Drive out distant echoes of emptiness
Drive out empty feelings of loneliness.
