The Kittens Neville And Arthur Poem by James S Newcomb Lang

The Kittens Neville And Arthur

The kittens Neville and Arthur
Came just as the lockdown struck
It couldn't have been better timing
A serendipitous stroke of luck

They kept us so very well entertained
With their play and exploration
Assured they'd keep us smiling throughout
No matter how long the duration

Our old cat Toby, was less impressed
And showed his dissatisfaction
Who were these young pretenders
Their presence was a gorse infraction

For over two weeks he skulked about
And hissed if they dared to come near
But slowly and surely he mellowed
As the kittens showed so little fear

Eventually he succumbed to his fate
The kittens were here to stay
And would occasionally sit and watch
Neville and Arthur at play

As for Neville and Arthur
Well at first they were apprehensive
Looking into nooks and crannies
And appearing rather pensive

But as kittens are naturally curious
Their fear disappeared in a trice
And soon they were charging madly about
Stalking each other and imaginary mice

They slept wrapped up together
Or on the sofa, on pillows and laps
And sometimes in the bed provided
Or in the most incredible gaps

When rested and fed and watered
Their antics would begin again
A constant source of amusement
Keeping us smiling and reasonably sane
