The Last Chance Poem by Alma Gonzalez

The Last Chance

Yesterday was great!
But tomorrow is better.
For my family and I
Have left that city forever.

Another new school
but for the last time!
Yahoo! At last,
Freedom is mine!

Got back from school
Telling my parents,
'Mom, Dad,
I got a lot of new friends! '

'But listen to this,
I have a new boyfriend! '
But I saw that;
the puzzled look on their face.

Knowing that I was going to be grounded,
I gave myself the last chance,
'Mom, Dad, on Friday
there's going to be this dance.'

Well, I went sadly
up to my room,
Saying, 'Whether they like or not,
I'm going or explode like KABOOM! '

It was Friday already,
and I sneaked out,
Knowing that my parents
had that doubt.

Five hours later,
I find myself lying on the floor.
Hearing the paramdic say,
'This girl won't make it anymore.'

'The teen driving this car
appeared to be drunk;
This car was hit on
the hood then the trunk.'

Albert died immediately
and I almost did.
Hoping that I didn't
to say one last thing.

I got to the hospital
and they finished with me.
I asked the nurse to come
because I couldn't see.

I asked her to do me a favor;
the biggest one coming from heart,
'Tell my parents I love them so much
and that we, as a family, will never fall apart.'

The machines beeped
and pronounced me dead.
I'd only wish that last chance
My parents would give.

I died with a tear in my face
and the hope to see my friends,
but I would have rather seen
both of my parents.

A man walked in
and asked the nurse,
'Why didn't you grant
the kid's last verse? '

'Because the people in the other car
WERE her parents.
'Cause they were crazy looking for her,
made all this happen.'

Sometimes too much freedom
can be enough.
But one last chance,
can ruin it all.
