The Last Gasp Poem by James Harris

The Last Gasp

One last gasp for air is all that I ask
A single deep breath to savor this life
One last taste of dark wine from that cask
Sweet gentle kisses from my beautiful wife
Do not let things end with me all alone
By myself in this dank darkened room
Tis the Reaper I do seek to postpone
His smile brings upon me certain doom
So one last of something to ease the pain
A little sip from that smallest of cups
All I hear now is the falling of rain
Upon his horse Death comes with gallop
Look now, he comes through my oak door
My time is short, how I long for more
