The Laughter Of A Scorned Man Poem by josh mckinney

The Laughter Of A Scorned Man

there are some things in this life
i build up to the point of anticipation,
then i fall so hard when i am faced
with the fact that there is no reciprocation.

so i let the pieces fall where they may,
look around at the ground, laugh and walk away.
im not so much mourning what never was,
only the good things that could have been.
still i walk away,
no fighting it,
this dead inside me.
this dead inside me

still i wonder why does it always end up this way for me?
still i wonder when the end is coming?
the last concentric circle of my life?
the one where i plow headlong into the ground.
6 feet under to call it a home finally found.
pushing up bluegrass in a lonely field

so i let the pieces fall where they may,
look around at the ground, laugh and walk away.
im not so much mourning what never was,
only the good things that could have been.
still i walk away,
no fighting it,
this dead inside me.
this dead inside me.

nothing more than a laugh in my throat,
always another lost cause for me to promote.
but without that where is my hope?
its not inside me, its dead inside me
