The Lesson Poem by Jay Alexander

The Lesson

Though we grew up
With green
We got to know blue and yellow
And a sunny black.

Although we met tallness,
We could cup
Tiny furry creatures
In our hands,
Watch ants walk along
Sticks.

Even though we heard
Hearty laughter
Break the night air,
We felt the silence
Of a palid corpse
As it said adieu.
