The Light Poem by McKenna DeVoe

The Light

To most, light represents:
security and stability.
But to the rare few, the darkness
is a far better home.
Far more welcoming into the deepest depths.
More so than the blinding rays of light.

The light blinds the eyes towards the necessary.
The lies told behind backs and false
loves, that break a person completely.
Dragged down into the deep despair;
what do they do to survive?
To make it through the torment?
They embrace the dark, push the blinding light out, away.
Shun the lies, accept the truth.

The light holds us at a distance,
but the darkness holds us in a tight embrace.
Shows the truth in the most bitter ways.
Don't be blinded by the light of the false.
Accept the darkened truth because the world,
isn't gentle- so grow to be strong.
