The Lonely Tree Poem by Ashutosh Khandelwal

The Lonely Tree

Here I am in the forest all alone,
All my relatives & friends are gone…
Not long ago I had myriad of friends,
And I thought man was one of them…
My animal friends made my branches their home,
I have seen how their children have grown…
Now they have all become extinct,
Leaving me alone with nothing, but a flint…
For years, I gave man fruits and gave him shade,
But he mutilated my relatives with a thick blade...
I always thought I was, to him, like a mother,
But forgot to see what he does to his real mother…
Oh no they are coming to take my wood away,
With their axes and saws waiting to sway…
There's still some time left to stop this slaughter,
Else soon there won't be any more laughter…
Stop cutting trees to decorate your home,
Or else there won't be life on your real home…
You know that you shall reap as you shall sow,
But what if you don't sow… what if you don't sow……….
