The Loner Poem by Jean Dament

The Loner

A lonely man who dwelled in the woods,
Spent all his time writing love songs & poetry,
Although he had a kind & loving way,
All his attempts to win his lady fair were sadly thwarted;
While he was consummed with such a passion,
That set his very soul afire just thinking of her,
He became puzzled why his melodies of love,
Could not melt this lady's stone cold heart,
And he mistakenly thought her made of ice,
But really she possessed a heart of gold,
Where she needed to stay true to her other lover;
She thought it kinder to keep her distance from this poet,
Where it would surely set them both free,
The loner remains alone still to this day.
