The Longing Of Yehudah Ha-Levi - Poem by Abraham Sutzkever

In the sea,
Between the death and birth of waves,
You can sense his longing. Music
Of self-begotten silence. Music
And around the music,
Small as a star
In the distance
And big as a star
Imprisoned storms lie,
With desiring, pearl-bedecked faces,
And hear, and feel —
Can barely yearn up to his yearning —
With its silence
Their silence
To silence.
