The Man From Kanturk Where Might He Be Today Poem by Francis Duggan

The Man From Kanturk Where Might He Be Today

The man from kanturk where might he be today
Is he now ageing gracefully in his Hometown far away?
I last spoke to him some two decades ago
And he talked of the place where the old Allow flow
He would be close to eighty if he is still alive
The last I see of him was before he did drive
To Adelaide to see friends some nine hours by car
For him such a journey did not seem at all far
His young years in Kanturk he used love to recall
He now would be well into his life's late Fall
And perhaps in the pub in Kanturk he relates
Stories of his travels in Australia to his younger mates
He must be near two decades older than me
And I visualize him as he used to be.
