The Masquerade - Poem by Natalie Jamokha

It's all a masquerade.
I walk down the street,
I smile at a passer by.
He nods and walks away.
It’s all a masquerade.

It’s all a masquerade.
I hum as walk.
I hum to smother the weeping,
I smile to hide the tears.
It’s all a masquerade

It’s all a masquerade.
I kiss your fears away,
Only to find them in me.
I wipe your tears and walk away.
It’s all a masquerade.

It's all a masquerade.
I feel the rays of the sun,
But they don’t mean anything
I feel at home when it rains.
It’s all a masquerade.

It's all a masquerade.
The mask has fallen away
To show my tear stained face.
He wipes my tears and thinks
It’s all a masquerade.
