The Namib Desert Poem by Nadia Glasner

The Namib Desert

Sand-shifting winds form
razor sharp edges
to towering red sand dunes
in the Namib Desert

From rugged mountains
to your vast salt pans
there are lizards and gekecos
playing in the sand.
Over time and so much space
your one of the oldest deserts
in this dreamlike place

With a feeling of solitude and the stillness in the air
all is quite in the desert air
As the sun starts to set over the red sand dunes
it gives off an orange glow
before the coming of a full bright moon

Billions of stars fill the dark desert skies
while sitting around a campfire
you may hear an occasional cry
Could be you hear the sound of a hoo-hoo
from the spotted eagle owl
or maybe
it's a hyena howling
underneath the midnight sky

From your awe-inspiring landscapes
to your
ancient costal deserts
What an amazing site to see
when visiting the Namib Desert

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I'm not sure what Form this falls under. I was in the process of trying to write a few Children's Travel Books and when I was doing research on Africa it just somehow inspired me to do a book on African Rhyme's and this was one I wrote. I long to someday be able to visit this lovely place.
