The Night Of The Krait Snake Poem by Bijay Kant Dubey

The Night Of The Krait Snake

How much terrified and horrified had I been
When my mother
Awoke me at the dead of midnight
To notice me
About a deadly snake of the rocky terrain
Named the krait,
The deep black and branded,
Glistening black snake with the red tongue
Darting it,
I saw it with awe and suspense
When she switched on the light
Lying in a corner of the room
Just after the funeral of my father was over
A few months ago
And with my awaking, ended it not all,
I awoke my youngest brother to safety
Shaking with fear, taking the name of Snake-God
So the snake could be traced
To be eliminated,
The krait,
The deep black krait
Like the coal tar.
