The Oceans Lesson Poem by Elisia Diaz

The Oceans Lesson

I stand in the ocean
with my toes in the sand
with the breeze in my hair
and water in my hand

Before me is the rising sun
in the east there are stars
Around me I hear the crashing waves
no boats or planes or cars

As I watch the sun come up
over the horizon
I feel as though it has a plan
as though it's on a mission

The sun has a purpose
a reason for being here
Everyday it runs it's path
It's purpose is very clear

The very waves that I've known so long
seem to be mixed up
The song seems calm and simple
like it's running from a cup

They used to sing and say
that all is okay and right
That each wave started new
that each day brought new light

That the ocean never ends
it goes for infinity and beyond
The sun always laughs
and finds the hopeless to smile upon

My surroundings are telling me
to never give in
To always keep on moving
like the fish with it's fin

Well done. Life moves on, and so should you. And to me, surrendering is never an option.

the sun finds the hopeless to smile upon. I love that line.
