The One Good Thing Poem by Robert Katuli

The One Good Thing

You are the one good thing
The one good thing for me
Heaven-sent by the Creator of all good things
My one good thing so fair to see

When the shadows flee away the one good thing to behold
When the night scares me the one good thing to clasp
When I’m hungry the one good thing sweet to my taste
When the day breaks the one good thing with a voice pleasant to hear

My heart you have ravished my one good thing my dove
My strengths you have drained my one good thing my love
My whole being you have overpowered my one good thing I want to laugh!
And my soul you have won my one good thing from above

Like the breaking of dawn, your sweet voice lights up my darkened room my one good thing
As the sun is clear, so is your mind my one good thing
As the moon is fair, so is your love my one good thing
You and you alone are that one good thing
