The Other Guy Poem by Concetta Salter

The Other Guy

Together, walking home from school.
It’s been a real long time.
Never see him much these days.
My steps become real small.
he asks about a guy I’ve met.
I say where only friends.
he looks at me and see the truth.
I know I must I explain.
I tell him that I’m not quite sure.
He asks me to explain.
I tell him that I’m still in love.
Though this love is not returned.
I tell him I want to move on
But sometimes I see him and can’t.
This new guy is charming and sweet.
But I feel that we don’t stand a chance.
I tell him I can’t love him.
I’m still in love with this other guy.
We’ve reached the end of the sidewalk.
He turns to face me slowly.
His eye’s are tuned to mine.
I hear him whisper softly,
That the guy I love is blind.
I know it’s time we say goodbye.
And that’s just what we do.
he turns and walks rite, while I turn to walk left.
I look back over my shoulder.
No matter what, he’s always behind me.
Behind my every thought.
Behind my every wish.
Behind my hope and prayers.
Sad thing is, is he didn’t look blind.
Sad thing is, is he didn’t know he was the other guy.
