The Path Poem by Jo R. Escher

The Path

Someone spoke well of my character yesterday

The words even now still melt into my soul

Daily we go through life hearing the bad... the negative

The hostile coldness becomes part of our daily routine

As well over time... we embrace and become that coldness

Our very person gets lost somewhere in the rush

Someone....somewhere crushed our innocence

Events have built stone walls of protection

They hide us from ourselves

We cry out...

Asking through our tears... where have we gone?

We search through many painful events

We wade through our rivers of pain

We place trophies on empty shelves and admire their dust

We numb the pain and emptiness with chemical and drink

We lose ourselves to others and blame them for our loss

We rage out at their lack of rescue

And we wait....

We wait....

We wait for Mothers arms to comfort us

We wait for Fathers love to protect us

We wait for others respect to show ourselves worthy

We wait for words and change that will never come

Throw away the trophies and wipe off the dust

Realize today....that you have become all that you waited for

Find balance in the walls you build

Bring love and tenderness back into your life

Have a passionate affair with yourself and those you cherish

For after all...it is you.... that you must live with

And most importantly..... Find peace with.....
