The Path You Take Without Me Poem by Linda Barnes

The Path You Take Without Me

I hate the path we took
Because you brought me with you
Through the darkness and the smog
I followed you faithfully

I remember the day we met
It was memorable and hopeful
How could I have known
We would end up miserable

How I long for those days
When life seemed invisible
A life with you I had hoped
To be loved and treasured

Many good times we shared
So much life still before us
Only to be smothered
In an abyss of quicksand

As I look to the stars
My eyes wide open
Followed by seamless heartache
With my soul now lost without you

I look toward the future
Not sure of what will behold me
Remembering that day and
The path you take without me

Love and pain! But with hope; still looking for the future. Nice work.
