The Place Of My Sorrows Poem by Neo Patricia Monamodi

The Place Of My Sorrows

There’s a place where I dump all my sorrows,
Where we can all relate and see though each other.
But you have to be a person of deep understanding
And you have to have a strong heart to come with me;
I like it, it’s better than burying my head in the sand
A place where just words say it all and I find solace
There, none needs convincing; words mean just what they say
In that place though they understand me, no one knows me

It’s a place where only the ones like me dwell
Where the difference between the woman I am and the girl
I used to be is clear
Yes, the girl I used to be; for then she saw the future as a fantasy
Only to become a woman and see that future being the present
Realizing there is there is actually a distinction between the two
For even though the present is perfect all prefer the fantasy.
There one has their feelings trampled upon for we’re all strangers

In this place I am at liberty to pour all I am with no fear
They know me not so my insecurities are linked to nothing
It’s the place I like, everyone sees the colors ordinary people don’t
They don’t see black and white like my ordinary friends
In my stolen moments, it’s the place I sit to reminisce the real truth
There I close my eyes and let that quiet soft tear fall
In those moments I take a deep breath and in that instant feel my real self
