The Portal. Poem by John C. Smith

The Portal.

Inside the darkening cave,
by the light of the new, slowly dying Sun
the Portal opened.
It's brightness filling the cave;
blasting out into the evening light.
No eye saw it.
No bird sang.
No insect buzzed.
No mammal ran in fright.
No man filled with awe
dared enter the cave.
For as yet no man existed.
But it was early yet.
The Portal closed.
It could wait.
There was plenty of time.
