The Powers That Be Poem by Damian Cranney

The Powers That Be

The Powers That Be

Effectively, the powers that be,
Were rocked in their tower, by a plebian sea,
Shaken to the core by just ordinary folk,
They Belittle the result, as a very poor joke,
We must not let them douse the light,
And cast us all back into the night.

Not since the Athenians stood side by side,
Has Democracy in action, been seen and applied,
The biggest democratic move, by a nation,
has Just taken place and has caused a Sensation,
The people walked, no need to run,
they knew instinctively what had to be done.

But the hidden agenda of the Ruling elite,
Using guile and deceit, their aims to complete,
Is to kill the will of our proud nation race,
What they are trying to do is a total disgrace.
Platitudes and attitudes are all that remain,
Non implementation obviously their aim.

The people's reaction will be more than distraction,
They will waken a fire and the country's dire ire,
If they thwart any more, the justified score,
If a football team loses when the others scored more,
You can't change the outcome by dissimulation,
Yet they happily ignore, the will of the nation.
