The Promises Of Politicians Poem by Mohammad Muzzammil

The Promises Of Politicians

Elections come, and candidates swarm,
With promises, sweet as honey, their norm,
They meet the people, with smiles so wide,
Promising change, they can't hide.

But as soon as the votes are cast,
Their promises become a thing of the past,
They vanish like mist, without a trace,
Leaving the people in the same old place.

The roads remain potholed, the water undrinkable,
Electricity and healthcare, barely available,
Corruption and poverty, still the norm,
The promises made, now mere decorum.

For the people, who gave them their vote,
The politicians seem to have no more note,
They go back to their high castles,
Ignoring the cries and the hassles.

The people wait for them to return,
For the change they promised, so stern,
But it never comes, year after year,
Their disappointment, hard to bear.

Elections are important, for sure,
But politicians should remember, and more,
That they are here to serve the people,
Not just to win, and disappear like a ripple.

So let us choose wisely, the ones we elect,
For our future, they will affect,
And remind them, that they are accountable,
To serve the people, and not just admirable.
