The Proximity Poem by DEEPAK KUMAR PATTANAYAK

The Proximity

An early start was a possibility
As spelt out at the deliberation
Just before the day of meeting of cordiality
In a place literally presumed to be a shrine
Where upon reaching we could walk in pleasantly
And talk and look at each other in delectation
And to trim the miles and the suspense enthusiastically
Set out in own conveyance sooner than late unto noon
With the youthful sun and blue clear sky
And the weather how joyful and sanguine
It looked of a day of a promising February
Along the path of highway where shone in sunshine
Many lingering leaves on avenue trees sublimely
And car, bus, and lorry in hundreds one by one
Were coming and going past us steadily
Until something heard or audible of a tune
Of a bird so sweet, alas adrift in noises of wheels feebly!
Late that afternoon when miles done
And in we were that great city and shrine quietly
Where seated nears and dears with a daughter and a son
Of two noble families to opt for bride and groom respectively
If got through typical norms to agreeably happen
A wedding while ensued thereupon a process of solemnity
Of awakening through introduction and interaction
Amongst and in between two young souls was but an act of divinity
The day fell and the city, the street and the shrine
Were lit in a flood of light that could veil not measurably
The inner workings of their heart mirrored in
The other's eyes and the sweet and tender things stealthily
Surfaced in their dreams did gleam in hardly spoken lips as seen
Now it was time of the glory of the valedictory
When with the memories of cherished hours not bygone
And bestudded with stars was the sky and silently
The earth like a drooping flower was gathering dews of heaven
In her glorious landscape and path with the beams of stars and moon and serenely
Did we start home then
When it seemed time and space were merging into a beautiful dawn
contentedly
And by the time we reached home it was with tuneful tone
A bird was propounding in the sky
And in a few days the boy was seen
Leaving for abroad on an assignment emphatically
Leaving behind a soulful year and distance in our mind's domain
Until he comes back in January
The days would have flown into the land of VanDiemen then
For what is a year it is but a handful of sands playful and naughty
In the cusp of fingers to ebb and ebb and slide down
Till all sands lie bare unto the time's ocean eternally
Whether possessed of deliverance of own souls lie in their union not
known
But it's true of such a grand distance getting abridged to proximity
Of walk and look, talk and smile and... just clinched happens once in a blue moon
For marriages are but arranged in heaven solemnly

A marvelous poem that touches on one of the most joyful ceremonies a person has to undertake in life. No union is more profound than a marriage, for it embodies the highest ideals of love, fidelity, devotion and family. It comes to us from the hand of God. These thoughts have been beautifully laid down in this wonderful write.
