The Public God Poem by Nassy Fesharaki

The Public God

I had God but lost him
Cloak-men stole him
I’m searching; I loved him
So tonight for the forum
I was first in the room
I’m in love with unseen

Once again podium
Little faith, too much talk
His friends are stupid
Like shepherd and carver
Of the poems I have read
I came out; numb brain
Crazy, ran away

I’m tired; I’m tired, I’m tired
God! Please if you are
Anywhere in shade, light
Kill them all, kill them all
Better off without them

I lost you
To your friends
Or the ones who claim:
“I know God”

They are either sleazy
No knowledge and easy
Or worthless and slaves
For money, Politics
Regardless, I’m tired
Stupidly they comment

Where are you?
What are you?
I need you as a friend.
If not, drug and drapes
In darkness I face death.
