It happened in the eighties
At Nortel's Dinner-Dance.
When a young lady at my table,
Tried to make me feel a fool.
She said, "In this day and age,
To get married isn't cool.
It's something I would
DEFINITELY
Never ever do.
Why not just cohabit?
Living together is in
I suppose you call it
Living in sin."
"If you had a baby,
Whose surname would you give? "
I asked quite matter of factly.
I didn't take for granted,
It would be that of the Daddy.
After her attempt to get me riled.
It wasn't me,
That had a look so wild!
Oh how I so enjoyed,
Seeing the would-be agitator
Looking so annoyed!
"The father's name of-course! "
Was what she angrily said.
"Because if I had a baby,
We would certainly get wed."
I thought about reminding her
About her earlier words.
Which she had just made sound absurd.
Instead I just sat there looking smug.
I thought it served her right,
For trying to make me look a mug.
