The Real Me Poem by Aliyah Lakes

The Real Me

Look into the eyes and tell me what you see
Something so deceiving of what use to be
Trapped inside of what feels like forever
Trying to find the answers as to why this happens
Is it you? Is it me?
Questions we ask ourselves when our world seems to be crashing down
Blood pumping through my veins
Endless tears reflecting the pain
Running up to windows, see a way out
Only to see that my world is turned inside out
Never doubt the love, and
Never doubt the trust
Words fade away with my ever burning lust
Lies, guilt, pain, and sorrow
Who's to say that there will be a tomorrow?
Trying to hold on,
At the same time, trying to break free
Still trying to figure out the real definition of me
Mind, body, flesh, and spirit
Tired of the pain and the things that come with it
Live, laugh, learn, love
What happened to 'ill always be around' when push comes to shove?
Lost and confused
Trying to break free
Still trying to recognize the beauty of me...
