The Reality Of Our Era Poem by Daya Nandan

The Reality Of Our Era

Cigarette butts scattered upon the city streets,
Smoking youngsters with weakened heart beats,
The rich oppressing the poor to satisfy their greed,
While the poor struggle hard to get each basic need,

Alcoholics drinking, driving drunk upon the road,
Killing and injuring, bodies for the ambulances to load,
Teenagers intoxicated and addicted to illegal drugs,
Who don’t value their parents advice and loving hugs,

Teen pregnancies, teens aborting their own flesh,
Killing an innocent life for a chance to start off fresh,
Serial killers and rapists prowl the streets at night,
To hunt victims and give their desires an ecstatic flight,

Racism everywhere, so many being treated unfair,
Equally earned wealth that the greedy don’t want to share,
Corrupted politicians stealing money from the people,
The people in poverty, the country starts to cripple,

The world we live in so much more broken than it seems,
Society is filled with suicidal souls born of broken dreams,
This the reality of our world, the reality of our place,
The problems that need attention, problems for man to face.
