The Rescue Dog Poem by Jan Oskar Hansen

The Rescue Dog

rescue dog

I knew of a man who had gone blind
he decided to go for a swim in his big swimming pool
and knew it was somewhere in his garden.
The pool, one can say, found him as he fell into it.
After swimming a bit, he naturally turned left to find
the edge of the pool, but lacking a sense of the position
he swam around and around, which in the end was tiring.
His faithful dog noticed the man was struggling jumped
into the pool, not its natural element grabbed his blind
master by the hand and leading him to the edge.
Grateful the man rewarded his dog with some treats,
animals do not handle money well.
