The Return Poem by Wade Bouton

The Return

Rating: 5.0

Everyday my mind returns
To the spot of seclusion
Offering sacrament to the sea

Hearing the crashing of waves
The squawk of birds high above
And the roar of the wind in my ears

The sight of the sea both restless and calm
As waves trip and crash headfirst
Then stretch out and lie down flat

Like the smell of a familiar lover
Comfort overtakes me
And a faint smile crosses my lips

They part and memories flood into my conciseness
When your saltiness dances on my tongue
A single tear joining the waltz

I feel the wind across my face
Fluttering the tendrils of my hair
Penetrating deep into my soul

Giving breath to my bosom
And escape to my mind
The fog is lifted

My minds eye blinks
And my thoughts become clear
Forever I shall rest
The return is near.
