Alone In The Light Poem by Wade Bouton

Alone In The Light

Rating: 5.0

I was standing in the light, but all was dark and lonely. I was surrounded by a crowd and at once all alone.

Looking at the masses, all huddled together, joyous, believing in something bigger than themselves, made my insignificance that much more apparent.

As tears streamed down my heart from complete, sheer and utter loneliness, no one did see, because no one was focused on me.

But as I looked up, I saw what life is all about. Two young hearts having been joined in an ancient ritual, forever bonded as one.

The fleeting moment of happiness faded quickly however as my deep despair returned as I stood on the precipice. Wanting to both throw myself over and shout out that I will not go quietly. That my life does have meaning or will.

Just then a shiver overtook my being and thoughts of desperation invaded my soul from below. I felt the struggle of good and evil take place within me as I stood in front of this holy place.

The demons and the angels waging their epic conflict as I stood shivering, waiting for a sign to go forward or go back.

Just then an angel appeared in front of me about to run over my soul, but without warning disappeared into the stream of humanity. Is this a prediction of things to come or just a cruel illusion played on me from below.

Time will tell, as time is the only incorruptible force.
