The Right To Self-Defence Poem by Daya Nandan

The Right To Self-Defence

If the police fails to protect you from crime,
If the criminal plans to kill you in time,
What other choices do you really have left?
Self-defense or let yourself be a victim of murder and theft,

But how can you defend yourself if laws make it a crime,
Self-defense punishable? Nonsense at it's prime!
Denying the right to self-defense while providing inadequate security,
Now that is an idea born of poor planning and immaturity,

How can i let a thief try to kill me and take what is mine by right,
How can the government expect me to tolerate injustice without a fight,
Punishing me for practicing my fundamental right to protect my own life,
Against criminals who would gladly kill my family and i with a knife,

It is pure injustice to see a man punished for defending his own life,
Would the government be accountable if the criminal killed his wife?
Why empower criminals over protecting the the people's rights,
Why support these wrongdoers that give all of us sleepless nights,

Making self-defense illegal puts innocents at the mercy of guns and knives,
The crime rate will continue to increase and we will lose more innocent lives,
i have the right to preserve my own existence in the event of a criminal attack,
So stop punishing our rights to self-defense and let the people fight back!

Stop punishing our rights - a very nice thought, feel it, like it.
