The Shield Poem by Jerome Geronimo

The Shield

Rating: 5.0

beckoning, pleading, begging
for all the pain that enters my eyes
to leave through my heart
scarring the walls of my flesh
and leave behind the trails
of my drying tears
not withhold that which is sacred
in my memory.. of all happiness
and of love that once was a shield
but has betrayed its sacred oath
to protect 'til its dying moment
its only owner, its only master..
but love knows not of loyalty
but always yearns for the bliss
and will run, in an instant,
when the walls turn cold,
and the voices arise,
and the tears flow,
and the rains thunder,
and when faith asks 'are you strong? '
it will say 'no.'
and that shield shall break
and cut its owner
