The Shoebox Poem by Shelley Frances

The Shoebox

Ah yes, the unavoidable shoebox
saved for you-never-know-what
sits on closet shelf in just the right spot
the pretty box with images of happy ladies in high shoes
a gilded box that almost anyone would use
the one that no longer smells of leather
held reasonable shoes for all kinds of weather
the box now pulled shut with satin blue bow
tied tight in a knot so that no one will know
holds a lifetime in card-stock worthy vessel
filled with trinkets, yellowed photos, penned love notes and brown corsage tassel
waiting with patience for me to peek in
let the journey back in time once more begin
