The sky was sad because it had
To stay above and bound.
It longed to go to earth and know
The freedom of the ground.
Since it was bold, one day it told
A piece of sky to fall,
And so it did as it was bid
And fell and learned to crawl.
The piece of sky did not ask why
It had to crawl on earth
When birds it knew all upward flew
In gaiety and mirth.
Instead it spent its days and went,
Now walking on its feet,
And learned to speak a bit each week
And thought that it was sweet
To live on land, to sit and stand,
And though it felt some pain,
It always knew that it would too
Soon greet the sky again.
