The Soldier Poem by norman hale

The Soldier

They fight for our country
On those far away lands
Yet some turn there backs
As if they weren't a man

Some come back in caskets
Some crippled or mentally abused
And so many wander why
They seem to have a short fuse

They are someones sons or daughters
And they are so dearly missed
Our Government acts like they don't know
Why so many are angerly shaking there fists

Some leave back little children
As they leave off for the war
Never knowing at the time
They'll never see them anymore

They are there to follow orders
Given higher up on the line
Never knowing if the next move
Might be their end of time

But they keep their pride and courage
And the love and letters from back home
Sometimes that's all they have left
To keep from feeling so hurt or alone

They proudly wave OL GLORY
To remind them of their rights
As they think of others burning it
Their blood boils up for a fight

They could be so many things
Like a father or a mother
A son or a daughter
Or a sister or even a brother

No one never knows
What or how things are meant to be
If you think you know it all
Then just sit back, watch and see

The soldier is a respectful person
Unlike the scam artists of today
Seams someone is trying to scam for something
Even if it's just to get their way

He will still head off to war
And leave his mother in tears
And take that fatal chance
That every loved one fears

And if he should come back
In a pine box with a flag draped over the top
At least we can say his war is over
It has finally come to a stop

But the soldier will give it all
For what he knows is right
And lay it all on the line
Until he sees that Heavenly light
