The Spark Poem by Barry Hughes

The Spark

Tonight as I sleep rip the spark from my eye
Savor the moment as I start to die
You stole every breath, every reason to live
And now that they’re gone there’s nothing to win
You ripped out my soul and tore it apart
You’ve broken my dreams and stomped on my heart
I devoted my life to bringing you joy
But you threw me away like a childhood toy
For you I’d do anything for only a smile
Through broken glass I would crawl, for over a mile
To be in your life was my greatest dream
But you could care less or so it would seem
No word ever made could describe how I feel
Yet my screams ring out as I feel your cold steel
Your knife in my heart is my very last sight
Stopping the tears you started that night
