The sun is a star
and the stars are suns
as we climb up
the ladder of life
nature stirs
genius and madness,
compassion and cruelty,
all the drives
of man,
life and death
this spurt of living,
indulges us
a short history
of progress
as mankind adapts
and prudently turns,
art and culture
into a new way
to raise the stakes
of survival.
