The Summit Poem by Jeryn Bean

The Summit

They stand at the summit,
always watching,
always protecting,
always standing.

they watch over us all,
through the bad, and the good.
they shield us all from the harm,
and celebrate out achievements.

they do this all without complaint,
doing it without a reward,
they stand there at risk,
so that we may be safe.

they do this indefinitely,
unless we forsake them,
they're then unable to be our shields,
unable to watch us....

and so, they fall.
