The Taking Poem by Mona Adviento

The Taking

From a distance I see you swagger into a room
And conquer the very air with your commanding presence.
This show of self-possession, effortless- with the grace of a lion
An alpha male, personified- magnificently mine.

Your eyes search for me- probing, seeking, dominant
A heart of a hero beating in the rhythm of a glorious rain
You take me in one long infinite breath
that steals away from my body a life force of stars.

Deny me thy presence and I shall crumple.
Agonizingly painful, thy absence
And now thou are mine
I shall take on the world armed with limitless pride.

My senses leave me at thy slightest touch
that carries the energy of a thousand satellites.
Alive with all the scents of our unrestrained carnality
We are drunk with this chalice of utter intimacy.

Burn me, if this be a dream
I’d rather die asleep in the ashes of our forever.
I’d rather perish in the fire in your arms
than be solitary at the pinnacle of the world.

Drench me in kisses and devour my soul
Disrobe me of my reason and claim my mind.
Engrave your name in the recesses of my memory
I shall yield to thee, I shall yield to thee.

Closing distance, I see you saunter into my life
and charm the very words from my trembling lips.
This show of your possession- absolute, unquestioned,
The perennial wanderer’s now finally home.
