The Tawang Monastery/ Cchau Dance Poem by Bijay Kant Dubey

The Tawang Monastery/ Cchau Dance

The Tawang Monastery

With the image of the Buddha,
The prayer hall and the library
Taking us to the days of yore
When the monastery was founded
In Arunachal Pradesh overlooking
The borders and beyond
At the foothills under the canopy of
Blue, blue skies and green surroundings.

Cchau Dance

How can it be gods and goddesses
Landing from heaven
And dancing before
With the masks put over
And the folk artistes performing?
Appalled to see Brahma, Vishnu, Maheshwara,
Durga, Mahishasura,
Kartik, Ganesh, Lakshmi, Saraswati
Enacting the Mashiamardini scene
With a lance into the hands
And seated upon a lion
And Mahishasura arising out of a buffalo.
The folk singers and musicians singing
And the artistes enacting on land.
