The The Cruelty Poem by Jan Oskar Hansen

The The Cruelty

The Vengeance
In the house were we lived had five families
a toilet for everyone in the basement where also rats lived.
The man in the flat under ours (one room)drank a lot and when
drunk beat his wife and then he forced himself on her.
We could do little sometimes police came and arrested the man
but let him go when he was sober.
Then he came ill and as he lay dying his wife bought funeral
outfit for herself it was all in black, she paraded in front
of him said it was for his funeral we heard him sob, we
also heard her giggles, but there was little we could do.
