The Things You Stand For Poem by Francis Duggan

The Things You Stand For

The things you stand for say more of you than words can ever say
Have we the right to judge others do you see that as okay?
Do you see those who are different as inferior to you
Or are you one of those people who gives everyone their due?

Do you see those of a different Nationality to you as inferior in some way?
The feelings of racial superiority is still prevalent today
Some do believe in a fair go though no such a thing as a fair go for all
But actions speak louder than words as we can well recall.

The things you stand for says more of you than your achievements can
And that applies to everyone to every woman and man
You well may be a billionaire but that does not say of you
That to the higher principles you are one who is true.

The things you stand for says more of you than words can ever say
Do you believe those who are different are your equals and too deserve fair play
Or are you one of those people who believe in the superiority
Of your Nationality, Religion and Culture, the us, ourselves and we?
