The Trial Of The Century?
I was a prosecution lawyer in the D.A's office
in Los Angeles. Later I was in my private firms
with partners.I defended the poor, African Americans
like myself, in cases of police brutality
by the LAPD. I defended the rich, Michael Jackson,
Jim Brown, Marion Jones... and O.J. Simpson.
I won most of the cases, but not all them.
I grew rich, owned houses in LA, apartments
in New York City and prestige cars, Jaguars.
I wore the finest suitsmoney could buy.
I also gave to the less fortunate than myself.
I was a hero to African Americans in the City of Angels.
Back in 1994 I was the leader of the 'Dream Team'
which defended O.J. Simpson against the double murders.
I played the race card early on; it was an ace.
Mark Fuhrman was a key witness but I compared him to Hitler.
I painted O.J. as a victim of racism in the LAPD.
When O.J. tried theatrically to put on the glove,
I said to the jury, 'If it doesn't fit, you must acquit'.
They did. O.J. walked away a free man, though many said
he did stab his wife Nicole and Ron Goldman to death.
'Did I know that O.J. Simpson was in fact guilty? '
I took that secret to the grave.

Cochran had a successful career in law, both as assistant district attorney, and three times in his own law firms, defending rich and poor clients. Rev. Jesse Jackson said Cochran was 'the people's lawyer'. If you are interested to find out more, use Google/ You

I have read many books on the O.J.Simpson trial. I used my three-disc DVD ' O.J: Made in America', which was helpful and entertaining. Simpson was jailed for armed robbery and kidnapping in Las Vegas in September 2007. He was only recently released on parole from
Lovelock Corrections, Nevada.
Mark Fuhrman was demonized in the trial for racist comments (in the distant past)and violence towards African Americans, but I think he did a most thorough job in collecting evidence at the crime scene-a situation in which he did not seek to be involved. He just got a phone call in the middle of the night and went straight to Simpson's
mansion.To imply-as the defense did- that Fuhrman planted a bloodied glove beside Simpson's house on Rockingham is ludicrous.
There was overwhelming evidence that Simpson was guilty of the murders, in my opinion.

Glossary: U.C.L.A.= University of California Los Angeles.
L.A.P.D.= Los Angeles Police Department.
D.A.= District Attorney. A government lawyer who prosecutes in trials. Johnnie was assistant city attorney 1963-1966. In 1978 he left private practice to return to the DA's office as assistant district attorney, a position which he held until 1984.He spent the rest of his life in his private practice firms.
L.A.=Los Angeles-as everybody knows.
You chaired the Manhattan Empowerment Zone, which revitalized deprived areas in the city. Your perception has a great value in expressing the thought in this excellently penned poem. This is a nice poem shared really.10
