The Truth Will Set Me Free Poem by Monica O'Connor

The Truth Will Set Me Free

And even passersby, they know the truth,
its evident, I don't need proof.
My eyes, they state the obvious,
that I'm bitter cold and envious.
It's true, yet I'm still laying here,
and hiding from the truth.

I'm laying in the residue of what you left behind
It's pouring from the gutter of what I used to call my life.
I'm shaken, cold, but confident,
And I'm broken now, but I'll pretend
that I'm okay, and I'll defend
because the truth will set me free.

If time is what it takes, then I will wait.
And if love is what you need then love I'll make.
And if its something else you want,
I'll find a way, I won't give up
if it means that you'll be okay,
and that maybe you will stay.
But you won't,
and the truth will set me free.

I'm laying in the residue of what you left behind
It's pouring from the gutter of what I used to call my life.
I'm shaken, cold, but confident,
And I'm broken now, but I'll pretend
that I'm okay, and I'll defend
because the truth will set me free.
