The Upanishads Poem by Rm. Shanmugam Chettiar

The Upanishads

The Upanishads are the end part of the Ve-das.
The Upanishads are the heart of Hinduism.
Purification of self is its goal.
Liberation is its implication.
Upanishads all date back to variant
Period well before 1000 B.C.E
With their existence near the river
Saraswathi in the present Thar District.

Authorships of the Upanishads are unknown.
Must it be that mostly the seers of that time,
At the hight of inspiration in finding
From their intuition, must have composed them
Over centuries. Eleven of them rank.
Brihadaranyaka, Chandogya, Taittiriya,
Aitareya, Svetasvatara, Isa, Kena, Katha,
Prasna, Mundaka and Mandukya Upanishads.
